Dr. Deirdre Farr graduated from Grinnell College in 1975 and from the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1980. She spent twenty years post-graduation practicing small animal medicine until discovering veterinary acupuncture in 2001. It was love at first sight.
Dr. Farr successfully completed her acupuncture training through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society course in 2003. Deciding to focus solely on alternative modalities, she opened her own veterinary practice, Natural Solutions, in November 2003.
She continued her education in Chinese Medicine and earned a certification in Chinese Veterinary Herbal Medicine through the College of Integrative Veterinary Therapies in 2012. In 2016, she passed the FAAVA exam given by the American Association of Veterinary acupuncturists, becoming a Fellow in that organization. In 2007, Dr. Farr successfully completed a course in Veterinary Spinal Manipulation at the Healing Oasis. In 2016 she completed the chiropractic program at the Health Pioneers Institute.
In 2019, Dr. Farr retired from her practice and has since been working one afternoon a week at Iowa Veterinary Wellness Center. Dr. Farr has been married forever to Tom Farr. She has three adult children, four grandchildren and numerous fur babies. Her passion is her patients. Other passions include crossword puzzles, binge-watching Downton Abbey, and family—but not necessarily in that order.
