IVWC has always been and will remain committed to the safety of its staff, clients and patients. For the foreseeable future, we will be taking extra measures to be sure all common surfaces are clean. This is in an effort to help slow down the spread of COVID-19. Even if you have mild symptoms, it is recommended that you stay home so you do not spread the virus to someone whose immune or respiratory system is compromised. If you are immunocompromised or over 70 years of age, following the guidelines of the CDC, please have a family member or friend bring your pet to the appointment.
During this time, if you are sick and your pet needs food or medicine, please go to our website and order the medications for delivery to your home. Visit our online store at MyVetStoreOnline order medications and prescription foods. We expect that this service will increase with the recent events so it may take up to a week to get the delivery.
If you need pet food or medications that are not available at our online store or the delivery time is too long, please contact us to discuss options which may include curbside pick-up or free home delivery.
We are asking you to not schedule any well-care visits in the next 2 weeks until we get a better picture of how this is going to play out. After April 7th, we will reassess the situation and will make any necessary changes at that time. If you have a scheduled appointment, and/or your pet needs medical care, we ask that you stay in your car, call us when you arrive and a nurse/technician will call you to discuss the medical history and the reason why your pet is coming to see us that day. Doing so will help minimize community spread of COVID-19.
While scheduling appointments via phone and during the phone call with your nurse/technician as your pet is being checked in, we will ask you a series of questions. The answers to these questions will help us determine if we need to take any extra precautions during your appointment. The questions will include:
Have you or your family members currently, or within the last 14 days, exhibited flu-like symptoms including fatigue, aches, fever or cough?
Have you traveled outside of the United States or to regions within the US where there is an outbreak of COVID-19 in the past 14 days?
Have you tested positive for the COVID-19 virus?
Additionally, beginning on Tuesday, March 24th, our staff will be dividing into two teams to split between the Des Moines/Beaverdale location and the Waukee location. We will no longer be sharing staff between the two practices. This will help ensure that -if- one of our staff is diagnosed with COVID-19, our other team will be able to assume care for our patients. Our hope is that this will allow for continuity of care and keep us from resulting in full closure due to exposure. For now, Drs. Wilke and Thibaudeau will be in Waukee. Drs. Jaschen, Gearhart and Rhoden will be in Des Moines.
Please help us help you. This is going to be a tough time for all small businesses. Consider going online to your favorite small business's website to order a gift card that can be used after this ends. The “big guys” can weather the storm. Some smaller ones may not. Take care of each other.
Let us know if there is any other way we can help you and your pet stay healthy.
